My dear friend Nancy wrote this poem in her twenties. I liked it so much I asked permission to post it on my site. Check out more of her writing on the blog "Tidal Crossings" she just started (see the link on my main page)...
Transitions
penned Summer of '88
by Nancy Sells (Nordstrom-Pawelek)
The sun rises
The soul awakes
Morning dawns innocently
Like an infant's smile
Every flower noticed
Every touch new
Young children
Dream fantastic dreams
Midday ascends
Emitting life
Brilliant ideas
Seize the world
Youth has no limits
Each dream is prey
Afternoon advances
Laughter turns light
Conversation is profound
Inquiries convey discoveries
Twilight generates anxiety
Anxiety fear
Fear desperation
Visions wane
Desire decays
The enervated spirit
Struggles to survive
Midnight mystically
Erases lost hope
Restoring purity
With learned wisdom
The body lies
In peaceful slumber
The soul renewed
The moon rises
