It's true. All it takes is the right phone call at the right time.
Headed to the mall with Kendall, I called my friend Kim to see if she wanted to meet us for lunch - since she moved from Lago, I rarely get to see her. I'm still in withdrawal from our weekly card games when our little group would gather at her house to catch-up, congratulate, and commiserate. And, oh yeah, play cards. Rummy 500.
"Hey, I'm glad you called. I'm cleaning out my closets. You need to come over." Kendall's eyes lit up when I told her. Kim always looks great - no telling what we'd get.
My wardrobe already included many "new-to-me" things she could no longer fit into or was just tired of wearing. She had graciously lost weight as I did; what a great friend! I didn't have to go bankrupt to replace the clothes I had given away.
Ah, but this day really was like Christmas in July. Kendall and I watched as Kim weeded out her closet and drawers, and a mountain of discards grew on the bed. And we laughed - she had us holding our sides at stories that went with some of the clothes. By the time she was through, we had a huge bag full of clothes, plus some hiking boots and coats. The "Pièce de résistance" was the dress she loaned me last fall for my thirtieth high school reunion. I LOVE that dress - ggrrroowwl.
I owe Kim big-time. Aren't friends wonderful?
