We went to Mexico tonight. Well, not really Mexico, but it would have been easy to pretend we were across the border because we had waiters who spoke no English, delicious salsa, chips, other Mexican-type food and wonderful Margaritas.
We were actually in a little restaurant in Leander, Texas - El Jardin del Rey - a small house painted bright tropical colors surrounded by live oaks. We sat on a covered porch, swatted at flies, sipped margaritas or Dos Equis (or if you were my husband, diet Coke) finally repaying our friends Joe and Mary Kay for keeping an eye on our house and puppies while we were in Montana this summer.
Life has been busy for all of us lately, and it was fun to sit and chill and get caught up. Their son Ryan graduated from high school last year and is now at UT - his dream. Their older son Graham is our older son Tommy's best friend, so we've been through many adventures together while they grew up. It's fun now to talk about where they are, how far they've come, and reminisce about the path they took, even though it wasn't always fun along the way for us.
Here's to good friends...for the therapy and support they provide that is so necessary during the "parenting-teenagers" years...
