A new first for me yesterday - instead of zooming past with my good intentions still tucked in my purse because I'm already late for a soccer game or something and just don't have time, I finally visited the organic vegetable farm stand in Jonestown. Angel Valley Organic Farm has been operating this stand every Saturday morning for about five years, and for about that long, I've been intending to visit it. But if I'm not sticking close to home on Saturdays, I'm in a rush to get somewhere.
I have to admit...up until a couple of years ago, I wouldn't have appreciated these gorgeous veggies, anyway. I wasn't as concerned about my health and nutrition, and my taste buds were numb from too much sugar and salt. I preferred my veggies deep-fried, dipped in ranch dressing!
But still, I always wanted to stop and see what they had to offer. Yesterday, I was on my way to the grocery store when I spotted the stand and realized I finally had the time. They were about to close it down for the day, and a lot of the produce was already gone (romaine, broccoli, and orange cauliflower), but I found plenty to buy - some butterhead and green leaf lettuce, arugula, sweet turnips (she talked me into these, swearing they taste nothing like regular turnips - and she's right!), and a sweet green pepper with a name I can't remember.
Now my refrigerator is overflowing with healthy green stuff. I just wish I wasn't the only one in the house who'll eat it...I'll feel like a rabbit before it's all gone!
