I've come across something amazing but to share it I have to admit to extreme stupidity. It is so amazing...too amazing to keep to myself...so I'll just have do it. Please have mercy and don't laugh at me too much...
It all started when I spotted Tom relaxing on the back deck one evening with a beer, listening to music. I had been rushing around but had stopped to eat a banana. I decided, what the heck, I'll pour a glass of wine and join him for a little while. (You can already see where this is headed, right?)
I settled into the chair closest to his - one of those double canvas fold-up chairs. I was still peeling my banana so (yes, I really did) I set my wine glass in the chair's cup holder. A second later, the chair shifted, the glass tilted, and I was SITTING in a glass of cabernet sauvignon. While wearing my favorite white shorts. (I told you it was a case of extreme stupidity!)
I was tempted to just throw the shorts away - they were soaked! But I just couldn't without at least trying to remove the stain. (They were my favorite shorts!) I rinsed them in cold water. I doused them in white wine and club soda. No luck. I turned to Google for help and discovered an article about using hydrogen peroxide mixed with dish soap. For the next week, my shorts were the subject of a science experiment in my bathroom. I kept them soaking in a plastic tub, every day pouring a fresh mixture of peroxide and dish soap on the continuously shrinking stained areas. One pocket stubbornly clung to the dull yellow residual stain, but I refused to give up, and eventually, it worked! (see the 'after' picture below - I was too upset to take a 'before' picture!)
Meanwhile, I had experimented with ratios and discovered it only takes a few drops of dish soap per 8 ounces or so of peroxide to lift the stain. That makes it much easier to rinse out before finally tossing in the washing machine. I went through about a gallon of peroxide, but that's still a lot cheaper than a pair of new white shorts!
What did I ever do without Google?
(Sure there are a couple of light spots, but you should have seen it before!)
