This year I resolve to sell my book and become a millionaire.
I'm setting up an archery range in my mind. Yesterday I posted about some abstract, daily goals for the year. They still hold true, and when it's all said and done, I still believe what's most important is just trying to figure out and follow God's plan for my life, one day at a time...
"I think in terms of the day's resolutions, not the year's." ~Henry Moore
But when I took a look at my post from New Year's Day a year ago, I realized my goals hadn't changed much. I was moderately successful at fulfilling them, but for 2010 I'm hoping for more concrete progress.
That's where the archery range fits in...I'm imagining several targets lined up in front of me with a different goal written in the bull's eye. I've got my arrows gathered up and I'm ready to start shooting.
I've decided to think big; even if I don't quite hit the bull's eye, I will have accomplished more than if I didn't even aim in that direction, right?
Take #1, above: Sell my book and become a millionaire. That's the bull's eye. The ring just around it is "Sell my book" and the outer ring is simply "Finish writing my book." If I just hit the outer ring, I'll be happy!
So here are the rest of my "bull's eyes"...I sure hope when I look back in a year (God willing) I'll be able to say I hit at least a few of them...
- Pay off all of our bills. That's the biggie! Since I'm also resolving to be more generous, thoughtful and giving, I'm going to have to be more creative and resourceful... and work more hours!
- Visit my parents one weekend a month. Nothing more to add to that.
- Finish clearing out, cleaning up and organizing this house. So many possibilities here that won't cost much more than time and elbow grease!
- Read SIX books...rotating between fiction, nonfiction, writing, history, philosophy and theology. That gives me two months to read one. Should be plenty of time...so why haven't I been able to do it?
I think that's enough for one year...especially since I want to continue what I've started: keeping in touch with my friends and family, blogging, staying in shape....
As Oprah said..."Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."
(So...do you have any "bull's eyes" for 2010? Share!)
