Do not call me, for I will not answer - at least not tonight after 7, Central Time. Physically I will be nestled on my couch with eyes glued to the television. Mentally, I'll be an imagination away on a remote, mysterious island trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
My name is Barbara Shallue and I am a LOST-aholic.
I don't pretend to be an expert; my memory isn't that sharp. I just enjoy the ride! The twists and turns of the story line that annoy many people - I love them! For a long time I suspected the writers were making it up as they went...but that didn't bother me. I envied them and their creativity! I really didn't care if they ever tied it all together.
It reminded me of a writing exercise in one of my classes, where we worked as a group to create a story...each of us beginning where the previous teammate had left off. I had the honor of gathering all of the loose ends and random facts together into a grand finale - it was the most fun I've ever had on a writing project. Probably some of my most creative work!
I love the characters in LOST - multilayered, complex, full of surprises, each one good AND bad in their own way (in other words...human.) Each is seemingly completely different from the next - culturally, morally, etc. - yet they connect.
I love how far-fetched the whole story line appears to be...and yet the writers have managed to create a world where it fits. Now, with each episode, I am even more impressed with the details, the background, the way they are beginning to fit the puzzle pieces together...how they weaved these characters and each of their individual stories into this one huge epic tale.
Tonight is the beginning episode of Season 6 - the Final Season. It's not too late to become a LOST aficionado yourself...Entertainment Weekly will run you through the "10 Essential Episodes" (click here.) (Yes, like all junkies, I'm trying to create other addicts.)
For you comrades who are already LOST...check out LOST Season 6, a website totally dedicated to this season. And see if you agree with Megan Smith's "The 25 Best Moments of "LOST"on Blogher.
I hope you all join me in this last trip back to the island. Those of you that choose to remain behind, remember...don't call me after 7!
