My husband Tom loves to go to Hooter's. He swears it's only for the hot wings.
Yeah, I'm rolling my eyes, too.
But I have to admit, I'm starting to believe him. For the past few weeks he has been a man on a mission, trying to figure out how to duplicate the hot wings at home to save money. He has been gathering recipes online, scouring them for similarities and differences, jotting down notes and talking to himself like a mad scientist and finally, this weekend, he was ready to experiment.
Unfortunately, he just assumed I had all of the ingredients he needed for the sauce...cayenne pepper, chili sauce, paprika (I actually usually have some, but somehow ran out)...as if they magically appear and last forever on the shelves.
So, creative as he is, he "winged" it (ha - get it?) And let me tell you...those wings were awesome! I couldn't feel my lips or my tongue for an hour afterward and I was sweating and my nose was running - that's how good they were. He grilled the drummettes first and then just tossed them in the sauce - no frying or breading at all, so they were even semi-healthy! Much, much better than Hooter's wings. He has no reason to go back to Hooter's now, right?
Yeah, I'm rolling my eyes, too.
I love a man in the kitchen...
