Just trying to catch my balance!
I worked twelve hours yesterday for the first time in twenty years. (I'm talking about paid work, not parenting or household work, from which you never actually clock-out, am I right?...)
Anyway, each year volunteers respond to the call when it's time to harvest the grapes at the vineyard. To say thanks, the owners treat the volunteers to a free buffet dinner party at the Bistro: the annual Harvest Dinner.
Whew! I think I got a taste of what working at a mainstream restaurant on a busy Saturday night might be like!
But the hours went by fast and it was actually fun, in a crazy way. And near the end, I even got to sit down for a bit and visit with two friends I hadn't seen in a while. Very sweet!
Once home last night, I plopped down in a recliner to rest my aching feet and nibble on some chicken, spinach and artichoke lasagna that I snagged from the buffet line, then promptly fell asleep while watching a British television show about cars with Tom.
Today, well-rested, I'm playing catch-up: laundry, emails, um... I think that's as far as I've gotten and I haven't even finished those! So without further ado, here are a few other Sweet! moments from the past week...
Sunday: Boy Scout caramel popcorn full of almonds, pecans and cashews; meeting Kona the English Bulldog, all wiggles and drool; finishing the book "Faithful Place" in time to write the review
Monday: hearing that your Daddy is released from the hospital, even if there's no diagnosis; meeting your book review deadline with hours to spare
Tuesday: joining with others to support a friend; your son's help moving your daughter back to campus; news that your dad (only recently released from the hospital) swept the kitchen
Wednesday: your son's help with moving again, especially with getting a mini-fridge up two flights of stairs; a warm smile and sincere "How are you?" from a Walmart employee who wasn't even the official greeter; the smell of rain and sight of distant lightning
Thursday: your old dog Max running after jackrabbit (and knowing the jackrabbit got away); raindrops on your dusty windshield; photographing your toddler great niece who you haven't seen since Thanksgiving
Friday: watching a hawk splashing in a birdbath; faces of dear friends; lunch with your mom and dad; seeing your sister walk without using her cane; slipping out of Houston before the Friday afternoon rush hour
Saturday: putting your feet up after a long day; sharing chocolate torte with your sweetie
Sunday: sleeping in and still making it to church on time; a day off to play catch-up around the house
I hope you managed to find some sweet moments in your week!
