"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."
~Jack Layton
When I headed to Florida with Tom last weekend, weather forecasts indicated we could be meeting up with a mini-hurricane.
Ever-hopeful, I packed my swim suit and sunscreen, but I was mentally prepared for a week of rain. It didn't affect my desire to go, because my main purpose was to spend time with some of Tom's brothers, my sister-in-law, niece and nephews, and especially my amazing, spunky mother-in-law.
I wanted to help celebrate her 85th birthday.
Fortunately, I was able to celebrate Mom AND spend a few hours at the beach with my niece and nephews, because the mini-hurricane fizzled into a sub-tropical storm that somehow missed us. We had a little rain during the week, but a whole lot more sunshine.
We even did a little fishing at "Pop's Pier", one of Tom's dad's favorite spots. By a "little fishing", I mean we only caught a few little fish and fed squid to the nibblers, but there was a great breeze blowing and we made some memories. I think Pop would still be proud.
Tom's little brother helped me acquire 2 new 'firsts' for my 60 by 60 list that day:
15. I baited a hook for the first time... and probably last time! Ugh!
16. I finally stopped at the Old Chimney on Pensacola's Scenic Bluffs, after passing it by on every trip to and from Pensacola Beach and Pop's Pier for the past twenty years,.
Flying home yesterday, I was fortunate to get a window seat and experience another unexpected sweet! and "first"...
17. Viewing a rainbow from above!
A few other 'sweet!s' from Florida, plus more firsts and sweet!s from April and May...

Visiting a new neighbor's house-in-progress (he's also the builder, and the son of a past client)
A crescent moon playing peek-a-boo with a blanket of clouds
Another Keller Williams RED Day (Renew, Energize, Donate) - this year at SAFE, a shelter for abused women and children. Spotting a pink heart on the back of a caterpillar
A reunion of dear friends / past co-workers from my DuPont chemical plant days
And last but not least... the first sighting of the Mountain Pinks this morning! A sure sign that summer has arrived (in case the consistent high 90's temperatures hadn't convinced us yet)
I hope you are keeping your eyes open for the sweet!s in your life, which aren't just the blessings you're given, but also those you give to others. They are often the sweetest.
